Green With Envy

Today would have been a good morning to be at Belmont, if you're interested in seeing lackluster works out of what's shaping up to be the horse version of Ryan Leaf.

The Green Monkey worked 3 furlongs in 38:67 breezing. That was the 9th out of 9 works at that distance. It's going to be a media circus if this guy ever makes it to the track.

Also working over the Belmont track today, was Circular Quay (4f in 50.94 B), which is interesting because Todd Pletcher continues to work him over the inner turf at Belmont. This probably means he'll be seen next in the Virginia Derby (GII) on July 21st, as Pletcher said that was the goal if he continued to work well on the grass.

Also of note was a 5 furlong work by Minefield in 1:01.02. He is an undefeated 3-year old colt who made it onto my "horses to watch list" last winter as was was racing in allowances at Churchill Down under the eye of Pletcher; until he was sold to Godolphin and dropped off the radar.
